12/31/2023 0 Comments Maltese falcon yacht floor planIn 2009, Perkins sold Maltese Falcon to hedge-fund manager Elena Ambrosiadou. The sails, made by Robbie Doyle, are stored on individual in-mast mandrels and set and furled using a complex but brilliant system that makes use of a large number of electric motors within the masts and on the yards. Her long and relatively narrow hull was designed be very fast through the water, and her very long waterline 78 metres assures stability against heeling. The layout includes a master suite and five further guest cabins, and the crew of 16 is accommodated in eight cabins. ![]() The superyacht’s ‘luxury machine’ interior – a marriage of industrial chic and high tech – was designed by Ken Freivokh around Tom Perkins’ striking modern art collection, and features leather, glass, wood and steel. “To the best of my knowledge, this is not the case with any other big boat with reel winches.” “I can teach any sailor how to handle the yacht in five minutes,” he said. He went on to describe the mast and sail control system as ‘almost trivial’ in its simplicity. “We sail as close to the wind as any yacht, of any design, that has more than one mast,” Perkins previously said. ![]() One of the most exciting aspects of Maltese Falcon is the yacht’s upwind performance. On Maltese Falcon there are a total of 25 sails, giving her 10 spare. The great idea of the clipper rig is that a huge sail area, 2,415 metres square, in this case, can be spread over 15 sails, thus greatly reducing the loadings. With radical unstayed masts made of ‘weapons-grade’ carbon fibre, computerised sail and mast control system, Ma ltese Falcon, and in particular its FalconRig, was hailed as a triumph of design, development and engineering. Launched in 2006, the project took nearly six years to complete. Tom Perkins created one of the most sensational three-masted sailing yachts of the past 100 years when he built the 88 metre Maltese Falcon with Perini Navi. ![]() Article republished from BOAT INTERNATIONAL : 22 JUNE 2021 BY ROGER LEAN-VERCOE

That the 6.3-liter V-12 engine boasts 680 hp and 514 lb-ft capable of pushing this 4WD beast past 200 mph is, to put it mildly, a bonus. What it does have is four mostly usable seats - ideal for bringing along three friends or one friend and a reasonable amount of luggage for two humans on a high-performance, cross-country road trip. And did we mention it costs as much as a vacation condo in the Florida Keys? In short: It’s almost completely impractical to drive to Pottery Barn, let alone long distances. It gets abysmal gas mileage (11/17 mpg city/highway). At more than 4,233 pounds, it’s heavy by any standard. If a 911 isn’t disco enough for you, Ferrari’s curiously named GTC4Lusso may do the trick. I feel he was not helpful and just wanted me to go away and not bother him. He then said that Norton no longer supports windows 7 and I must upgrade my operating system to windows 11. While I was still on the chat I searched microsoft and it didn't have the service pack for me and also stated that microsoft no longer supports windows 7. ![]() The guy there had told me to install the windows service pack 1 and all would then work. ![]() I went into the Norton chat for help and support. Before my realizing that 32 bit is also x86. I had selected to uninstall my norton from the control panel add/remove programs and selected to uninstall Norton but to keep setting for a reinstall. Then I stated the Norton reinstall again and everything went through perfectly. This opens a window, you must copy the link into you browser and enter, this then starts the download and install. Once I found this out, I then went back to the linked download page for the KB4474419 update. What I didn't know was that the 32bit was listed on the microsoft download as x86. Thank you everyone for your help and advise. When Norton was installing again it flagged up that this KB file was needed, and didn’t go any further installing, otherwise I wouldn’t of know anything about it. Check in Windows update history to see if you already have KB4474419, I know I certainly didn’t and thought it wouldn’t install, but it did. When I ran into this problem first of all Windows tried to start up from the restart, but it went to a plain screen and a basic windows repair box repairing windows files and folders, none of my folders were changed. Go to the Microsoft update catalog website, not use the link by Norton if you get the box when trying to download 360, or try to save the KB file to your downloads folder or to the desktop instead and try to install then? I can’t understand why you can’t uninstall a folder on programs/programs x86 folders, if not then uninstall from the ‘programs’ section in the control panel, that should get rid of the Norton folders for you, if it does then create a manual restore day on the C drive first before carrying on, so at least you have a point when Norton was uninstalled. My laptop is quite old now, from 2012 W7 圆4 bit home premium. I advise against trying to find the download elsewhere, because you won't have protection and sites offering the download may be dangerous. You will need to be able to sign into your Norton account without using automatic password completion. Eventually they can provide a download that will install on Windows 7 without requiring KB4474419. Solution step 4: Go to Norton support chat. Problem 3: Installation of KB447419 fails with the message "The update is not applicable to your computer" If you can download and install you can complete the Norton reinstallation. Solution step 3: KB4474419 is available from the Microsoft update site. 12/30/2023 0 Comments Dealing with dark thoughts![]() Many Christians worry that they have committed the unforgivable or unpardonable sin – blasphemy. Sign Me Up! Are blasphemous thoughts unforgivable? A Christian’s salvation and identity are in Christ alone and completely secure. Christians must avoid the temptation to attach meaning to such thoughts. Once again, remember that all fall short and nothing is too big for the forgiveness Christ offers. As a result, fear, guilt and shame can become overwhelming. Many Christians have a fear that unwanted intrusive thoughts that are blasphemous in nature are unforgivable (more on that below). It refers to great disrespect shown to God. Blasphemous Thoughtsīlasphemous thoughts are unwanted thoughts that call God‘s work evil. If this is the case, seek professional help. This only becomes a concern if your violent thoughts move you to planning to follow through on the violent thoughts. The thought might be related to one harming themselves or others. Sometimes unwanted intrusive thoughts can be violent in nature. Rather, allow the thought to simply pass. But, once again, resist the temptation to believe this means something about you. Bizarre or Paranoid ThoughtsĮxperiencing bizarre or paranoid thoughts is another type of disturbing thought you may experience. Remember, these are just thoughts and we can let them just pass. As a result we work even harder to push the thoughts away and end up fixating on the very thoughts we want to get rid of. Sexual thoughts can be shocking or make us feel uncomfortable. It is not unusual to experience sexual thoughts at times regardless of your gender. Remember everyone experiences these thoughts at times. Yes – that’s what unwanted intrusive thoughts are in nature. However, you’re probably thinking, “You don’t know what these thoughts are“… They are sexual, violent, bizarre, blasphemous or really dark and negative. ![]() Above I spoke of intrusive thoughts in a very general way. ![]() If you are reading this article, you’re probably experiencing intrusive or unwanted thoughts. (More on that shortly.) What are examples of intrusive thoughts? The best solution is to change what we believe about the intrusive thought rather than trying to avoid the intrusive thought. And secondly, if we can figure out a trigger then we can avoid the trigger, thereby avoiding the shame associated with the disturbing thought we are experiencing. In other words, it’s a way to manage the emotion of shame. First, due to shame often being associated with the intrusive thought, if we try to pin it on something external, then it feels less shameful. People tend to ask if an intrusive thought can be triggered for a couple of reasons. Other times the unwanted thoughts can simply pop into our mind for no apparent reason. Sometimes we have intrusive thoughts triggered by an external event, memory or situation. This is a great question! The answer is sometimes yes. Additionally, the level of distress that is caused by such thoughts will vary based on how we view and evaluate the thoughts that we’re experiencing. The types of unwanted thoughts and images vary from person to person. Every person is different some may experience disturbing thoughts more frequently than others. This can be encouraging to know you’re not alone. “Everyone” includes Christians having unwanted intrusive thoughts, as well. Research shows that nearly everyone experiences intrusive thoughts at times. However, these thoughts can create distress so why do intrusive thoughts create so much distress? Well, here is the short answer… If unwanted intrusive thoughts are causing you much distress, you are likely attaching meaning to a thought that means nothing. Unwanted intrusive thoughts are something that everyone experiences at times. Intrusive thoughts can sometimes be triggered by something in the environment or they can just pop into your mind for no apparent reason. When you look up the definition of intrusive, it is defined as “causing disruption or annoyance through being unwelcome or uninvited”. Intrusive thoughts are unwanted thoughts, images or impulses. Is it a sin if you have intrusive thoughts?Īre blasphemous thoughts unforgivable? What are intrusive thoughts? As Christians, we navigate all things related to mental health through the lens of His Word. Nobody wants to deal with unwanted intrusive thoughts! Odyssey games were relatively simple but varied from table tennis, football and hockey to roulette, Simon Says, and Shootout. Donovan Harrell, photo courtesy of Vibrant Media Lab “Thus, the media of the past helps us understand the present while also delivering possibilities for the future.” “Understanding the media of the past can help orient us today, not only by tracing a genealogy to help us understand how we got here, but also to uncover the potentials that media systems possessed at one time and later lost,” Horton said. The relevance of the Odyssey, he said, can be seen in the Nintendo Labo series, which combines the Nintendo Switch console with analogue, cardboard-based peripherals and the company’s renewed emphasis on local multiplayer gaming. Horton said it is important to preserve games such as these because it helps inform future media systems. Ski Festival only uses one square on the screen and the player controls that square as they navigate different routes on the overlay. The movement with the inertia system was particularly tough, she said, because making smooth curves with the rotating knobs on the controllers was challenging. The game also felt more difficult to her than the other Odyssey games. They weren’t sure of the designer’s original intentions behind the movement for the game, so they recreated Ski Festival using two different cards and adjusted the rules depending on which card was used.įletcher said when she first grabbed the knobs on the sides of the controller and played on the console, her first comment was, “Oh, it’s like an Etch A Sketch.” ![]() With her input, they recreated a version of Ski Festival that they feel confident was close to Emery’s original vision. Pitt alumna Stephanie Fletcher, the lab’s playtester for more than three years, joined Horton and Wu after they had developed prototypes of the game. For a year, he, and Jin Jin Wu, a Pitt alum and artist who had worked with Horton on previous Odyssey games, made a series of prototype overlays using what they knew about the console, its history and the other games. ![]() Recreating the game was a complex process. Overlays came in two standardized sizes for 19- and 26-inch screens. The Odyssey and its games depended on a plastic overlay, which would stick to cathode-ray tube (CRT) television screens because they emitted static electricity. It also had an image of the game’s overlay, about 1.5-by-1.5 inches in size, alongside descriptions of the game instructions. The ad described the new version of the Odyssey and Ski Festival. The newfound awareness of the Vibrant Media lab and the OdysseyNow project got the attention of a collector who sent Horton an image of the unpublished, preprint ad. That’s the game that Horton’s team resurrected. However, once the game was fully designed and an advertisement was made, the company scrapped the entire project and Ski Festival along with it. Magnavox also had Emery develop an exclusive game for an unreleased cheaper and less powerful version of the Odyssey: a time trial game called Ski Festival. In 1973, the company hired Don Emery and asked him to make a new pack of games for the Odyssey, which were the last four ever made for the system. Each of them rejected the product.Įventually, though, Magnavox released the Odyssey in 1972, for $100 - about $731 today - which was expensive for the time, Horton noted. The console was originally developed by Ralph Baer, who worked on prototypes throughout the mid-1960s and shopped them around to multiple companies. Horton has been researching the development of the console and its games for years. The console is entirely analog and did not have a central processor, which is why the lab’s recreation of the system is such a feat. “It's not only historically significant to recover a lost game, but it points toward the kind of things that could have been but didn't happen, and maybe that can give inspiration to people today to do things differently.” “Odyssey gave birth to home video games, the home video game industry, but it also did things that we've lost since then,” he said. ![]() Now in its sixth year, OdysseyNow is the lab’s flagship project that focuses on researching the Magnavox Odyssey, the rare, first-generation home video game console. There, students and faculty work on preserving and playing the systems, among other projects. The lab is a cross-disciplinary space filled with vintage video game systems and board games. It’s the latest project from OdysseyNow in the Vibrant Media Lab, run by Zachary Horton, director of the lab and associate professor of English and film and media studies in the Kenneth P. A Pitt professor has successfully recreated the first unreleased video game in history. |
